NFT® Zinc Metallizing Wire
Metallizing is a process in which zinc wire is melted in an electric arc spray or gas flame spray gun. The gun melts the wire and compressed air strips away fine particles of molten metal, depositing them onto a steel surface to form a protective coating.
The sprayed metal coating is both a barrier coating and a galvanic coating in one. The metallized coating protects steel from corrosion longer than paint alone. Steel of virtually any size or shape can be metallized.
Corrosion Control Applications
The metallized coatings are applied at the fabricator’s shop or on-site onto existing structures. The coating provides long-term, cost effective protection to new steel or existing steel structures. Structures that are metallized for corrosion control include bridges, railings and fences, utility poles and tanks. Thermal sprayed zinc is also used for cathodic protection of reinforcing steel set in concrete.
Process Manufacturing
In addition to the galvanic coating of various steel structures, NFT Zinc Wire is sprayed in production manufacturing facilities to protect manufactured parts from corrosion, or to provide another quality to the part such as conductivity.
NFT Advantages
Zinc wire is in inventory, ready for immediate shipment.
- NFT Zinc Wire is made of Special High Grade Zinc (+99.995%). The wire surface is extremely clean.
- Metal purity guarantees the high zinc content required for metallized coatings. The wire’s cleanliness ensures trouble free operation when spraying.
- The controlled weight of 500 lb of wire in each drum limits the scrap that can develop when unequal weight drums are used in production manufacturing, particularly with twin wire electric arc spray.
- NFT Zinc Wire is manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standard.
